Meeting of the CoLiTec project members to the Grakovo observatory

On september 20, 2014, held a meeting of the CoLiTec project members in the Grakovo observatory (code of the observatory:121). Vasilii Shevchenko, Vladimir Psarev and Vladimir Akhmetov conducted a wonderful tour in the observatory.

Grakovo observatory (it also Chuguev Observational Station of National Institute of Astronomy at V.N.Karazin Kharkiv National University) — astronomical observatory, founded in the early 1960s near the village of Ivanovka Chuguevsky district, Kharkiv region. The founder of the observatory was Nikolai Pavlovych Barabashov. The laboratory of coherent optics was organized on the basis of the observational station. The main themes of the observatory: photometric and spectropolarimetric observations of asteroids. Current observatory telescope AZT-8 (D = 700 mm, F = 3150 mm), was demonstrated in the work. Also adjacent to the Grakovo observatory is UTR-2 (Ukrainian T-shaped radio telescope-2). Therefore, the CoLiTec group visited there. Lead research engineer Sergey Eryn gladly gave a tour of the grounds and talked about results and principles of the radio telescope operation.

Radio telescope UTR-2, up to the present time is the largest and most advanced tool in the world decameter wavelengths. Features include: large linear dimensions (2×1 km) and the effective area (150,000 m2); high directivity (beam width of about 0.5°); a low side lobe level; wide range of frequencies (8-33 MHz); electronic control beam in a wide sector in both coordinates and multipath; wide dynamic range and immunity; flexibility to change the configuration, advanced system monitoring and reliability. Antennas UTR-2 (1,440 units) were spread over an area of ​​150 thousand. sq. m., a length of 3 km. There are all the necessary communications to connect the control room with all the antennas in 1440 (diameter of the single antenna is 1.8 m) in the tunnels under the UTR-2. For each antenna in the tunnel swung away shifter that allows you to adjust the angle of the telescope.
